Using FTP

Using FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is an advanced system for transferring or managing files. If you wish to transfer or manage files using FTP, you can connect to your FTP server at e.g. siteftp.netscape.net or ftp.multimania.com.

1-Windows 95/98 & FTP.exe
| ftp siteftp.netscape.net or ftp ftp.multimania.com
|| GerardMelone User ID when prompted    /   qwerty Password when prompted
|| cd Directory to change to the right directory
|| put filennn.html for each file
|| bye

FTP-Commands will provide you with some detailed commands for FTP.exe. FTP (Rob van der Woude) as well!

2-Using a browser to transfer files via FTP (Netscape Navigator or MS-Internet Explorer)
| ftp://GerardMelone:qwerty@siteftp.netscape.net or ftp://GerardMelone:qwerty@ftp.multimania.com
| Reduce the windows in order to get both browser & Windows Explorer on the screen,
| Drag and drop the appropriate files from Windows Explorer to the browser.

3-FTP Shareware
If you would like to get an easy to use FTP client, go to //shareware.netscape.com or wanadoo.fr and search for "ftp". There are many FTP programs available for both PC and Macintosh systems e.g. CuteFTP.

4-Your computer as a FTP Server
If you would like to get your computer to become an easy to use FTP server (avoid hosting in the case of big file transfer), get FTP Serv-U from //ftpserv-u.deerfield.com clicking on "download". Set it up, change the connection port (replace port 21 by 11222), create users. You'll have to communicate your specific IP address which is changed at every new connection to your correspondant. The user will call ftp://user:password@IP_address:port_address (e.g. ftp://mark:qwerty@193.249.91.187:11222) to get thru to you.
